New York City is one of the safest big cities in the United States. Gap Year program activities will mostly take place at our campus in Midtown Manhattan. While the academic building is a secured space, students should note that our campus is not separated from the city. As always, students should stay alert and travel with caution when leaving campus and understand that their distance from campus limits the ability of our student life staff to provide support. We encourage students and parents/guardians to discuss safety and guidelines prior to their arrival at Gap Year. Parents should feel comfortable allowing their students to move unsupervised throughout New York City during their free time.
The School’s student life team provides additional levels of support including a “Safety in the City” presentation during orientation, tips on navigating public transit, as well as being available for student questions. Gap Year students are also required to attend a breakfast at the beginning of each academic day. A student missing breakfast will initiate the missing student protocol which includes a parent/guardian notification after a set period of time.
